Foreword from the Board Chairman:

Peace! Shalom! Paix! Nyaang! Shumonyang! By Gods special grace we are very honoured and privileged to have you on our website. The idea of a cooperative to help the rural communities through women and children was conceived and first mooted by late Shey Berinyuy Sebastian Lawong, our mentor, guide and one of the greatest co-operators Cameroon ever produced. He expressed the desire to organise the poor and underprivileged rural

masses into gender sensitive self help cooperative. That is a situation where they will pull their resources together to enhance productivity from their farms, get farm tools, collectively market their produce, secure basic needs, school fees for their children, medical bills etc. But unfortunately he never lived long to realise this dream completely.

The late Shey Berinyuy was born on the 01/01/1939 at Kumbo - Nso and after his primary education in the Roman Catholic Mission school at Nkar, he proceeded to the Saint Joseph's College Sasse from where he obtained his London G.C.E. papers. He then went to the Cooperative College in Ibadan, Nigeria where he read Cooperative Management and upon graduation, he obtained a scholarship to go for further studies to the Coady International Institude, Nova Scottia, Canada where he graduated with several certificates. He has contributed tremendously and passionately to the formation and growth of many farmer's cooperatives in the North West and South West provinces of Cameroon. Such as the Fish cooperative in Bamuso, Ndian Division, the Nso Area Cooperative Union, Mbve Women Cooperative, etc.

However five years after his demise BERWODEVCOOP was legalized on 17th September 2007. We have therefore named the Cooperative after him, not only because his name - Berinyuy means "Give thanks to God", but also in the firm prayerful hope that all the members, staff, partners, of BERWODEVCOOP shall be inspired by his humility, dedication and service for the underprivileged without any discrimination. We also pray that like him, BERWODEVCOOP shall remain gender-sensitive.

It's our fervent desire and prayer that BERWODEVCOOP should be a veritable melting pot of development ideas and a gender-sensitive vehicle for rural development. We are all stake-holders in this process and are bound to work together in love and truth, so that we may keep the balance and achieve peace through organic farming methods and environmentally friendly attitudes. We therefore call on you to join us and make your own contribution to humanity for the greater glory of God.
